This is a flashback to Alix‘s days as an assassin. The device she holds is a form of implant, along the lines of the one she has used in the comic a couple of times, such as earlier in this issue, and the one augmented in “Signing Bonus.” We’ll learn more soon.

Panel One

Vomu, wearing goggles, sits in a darkened room, illuminated only by the sparks of a circuit board that he is soldering.

Caption: Three Years Ago

Panel Two

Vomu can be seen through a rounded roof window from an overhead angle. Rain splatters the glass in this rainy flashback.

Panel Three

Alix approaches a door from the shadows, rain splashing her.

Panel Four

The door is open, and Alix stands in the frame. She leans against it, slightly bloodied, holding a knife in her hand.

Alix: Vomu…

Vomu (Off Screen): … aren’t you?

Panel Five

Vomu stands up, eying Alix with curiosity. She holds a small device to him between her thumb and forefinger.

Alix: 1.5 million credits.

Vomu: Huh?

Panel Six

Alix looks exhausted and bloodied but determined.

Alix: I am offering you 1.5 million credits to save my life
